Ahold Delhaize USA, the owner of East Coast grocery chains Food Lion, Giant Food, and Stop & Shop, has partnered with General Mills to expand regenerative agriculture practices for key ingredients like wheat and oats. The collaboration aims to reduce emissions across their shared value chain by co-investing in farms adopting sustainable agriculture techniques. The focus will be on geographic regions where these ingredients are sourced, with plans to advance regenerative practices on over 70,000 acres of farmland in Kansas and Canada by 2025.

This partnership marks Ahold Delhaize USA’s second venture into regenerative agriculture this year, following a pilot program with Kellanova to support sustainable practices on North Carolina wheat farms. The collaboration is facilitated by the Ecosystem Services Market Consortium, a nonprofit that will oversee impact measurement and verification of greenhouse gas reductions and soil carbon sequestration. General Mills has been investing in regenerative agriculture since 2020, with previous efforts in Kansas, and this collaboration with Ahold Delhaize continues these initiatives.

The strategic collaboration between these major players in the food supply chain highlights the importance of addressing climate impacts and driving positive environmental outcomes. By co-investing in regenerative agricultural solutions, producers, corporations, and consumers all stand to benefit from a more sustainable food system.
