Tilray CEO Irwin D. Simon is optimistic about potential changes to cannabis regulations following the US presidential election. The company is launching four hemp-derived THC drinks through its new Tilray Alternative Beverages unit this month. Cannabis beverage producers are hopeful about the political landscape shifting in their favor post-election.
Both major party candidates in the US have shown support for legalizing marijuana products. Vice President Kamala Harris has expressed her belief that cannabis should be legalized, while former president Donald Trump has voiced support for a Florida amendment legalizing recreational cannabis for adults over 21.
Tilray reported a 13% year-over-year increase in net revenue in the latest quarter. The company has been focusing on expanding its distribution of beer brands it acquired, such as Shock Top. Tilray has also made progress in managing its finances, paying down over $300 million in debt in the last quarter.
The recently launched THC drinks from Tilray contain 5 milligrams of hemp delta 9 THC, making them easier to sell in states where cannabis is still illegal. These drinks, including seltzers and mocktails in various flavors, will compete with other hemp-infused beverages on the market.
