Molson Coors has finished expanding its brewery in Golden, Colorado, adding 200,000 square feet to the facility. The company claims that this expansion will help reduce carbon emissions and cut costs in the long run.

The company, known for Coors Banquet and Blue Moon, announced in a recent blog post that the modernization efforts included replacing horizontal fermentation equipment with over a hundred vertical tanks, along with extensive piping and wiring.

The upgraded facility is expected to use 25% less energy, capture 30% more carbon, and save 80 million gallons of water annually. Peter J. Coors, a fifth-generation member of the Coors family, oversaw the construction and reported positive results from initial testing of the beer brands.

The brewery expansion project, which began in fall 2020, includes upgrades worth hundreds of millions of dollars to improve fermenting, aging, and filtration processes. This move comes as Molson Coors aims to revitalize its beer brands following a period of decline in volumes and net sales.

CEO Gavin Hattersley stated during the latest earnings call that the company’s focus is on rebuilding beer inventory and implementing price increases to drive growth.
