Jungbunzlauer, a producer of high-quality, sustainable ingredients from natural sources, is embarking on a groundbreaking project in Port Colborne, Ontario. They are building Canada’s first xanthan gum facility, a $200 million addition to their existing footprint in the area.
The first phase of this project was announced by Jungbunzlauer, with support from the Invest Ontario Fund amounting to $4.8 million.
CEO of Jungbunzlauer, Bruno Tremblay, expressed excitement about the expansion in Port Colborne, emphasizing the company’s dedication to providing top-quality biogums, sustainability, and supporting the local community.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, Tremblay was accompanied by site lead Ryan Doell and various government officials, including Premier Doug Ford, Minister Vic Fedeli, MP Vance Badawey, MPP Sam Oosterhoff, and Mayor William Steele.
Jungbunzlauer has been a part of the Port Colborne community for over 20 years, investing $560 million into the local facility for capacity expansion and sustainability improvement. The Phase 1 expansion is set to be operational by Spring 2026, producing biodegradable xanthan gum for various industries.
This expansion showcases Jungbunzlauer’s commitment to North America, carbon neutrality, and sustainability efforts. Invest Ontario’s Interim CEO, Michael Fedchyshyn, praised the expansion as a strategic investment for international companies in North America.
