Hershey has announced a new partnership aimed at improving cocoa farming practices in West Africa’s Ivory Coast. The company’s “Cocoa For Good” program focuses on addressing poverty, poor nutrition, child labor, and deforestation in the region. This initiative seeks to increase family access to nutrition, eliminate child labor, boost household income, and implement a zero-deforestation policy.

In line with their ESG goals, Hershey aims to achieve full sourcing visibility for its cocoa volume in both the Ivory Coast and Ghana by 2025. The company has already invested over half of its $500 million commitment towards “Cocoa For Good.” The chocolate industry has been facing challenges in the cocoa supply chain, leading to higher cocoa prices and price hikes for consumers.

Hershey’s partnership with cocoa-producing cooperatives is focused on improving farmers’ livelihoods. The announcement coincided with the National Cocoa and Chocolate Days in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. Hershey’s Vice President and Chief Procurement Officer, Tricia Brannigan, emphasized the importance of collaboration across public and private sectors in improving farmer incomes.
