President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan declared that Israel will face consequences for the genocide in the Gaza Strip on the anniversary of the war initiated by Israel in response to an attack by Hamas on October 7.
“Israel will eventually pay the price for the ongoing genocide it has conducted for a year,” Erdoğan stated on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“The victims in Gaza, Palestine, and Lebanon are not just innocent civilians, but also represent a blow to humanity and the international systems meant to protect it,” Erdoğan elaborated.
Erdoğan emphasized that peace cannot prevail until accountability is met for the Gaza genocide and Türkiye will continue to stand against Israel and urge the world to join in this stance.
Türkiye has been a strong critic of Israel throughout the war, supporting the Palestinian cause and Hamas as opposed to Western nations that label Hamas as a terrorist group.
Erdoğan has consistently denounced Israel as a “terrorist state,” accusing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of conducting a genocide in Gaza and likening him to Adolf Hitler of Nazi Germany.
Erdoğan stressed the need for an alliance to stop Netanyahu and his network of violence, drawing parallels to how Hitler was stopped.
He also criticized the international system for failing to halt the conflict in Gaza and Lebanon and called for an end to Israel’s policy of genocide, occupation, and invasion.
Erdoğan urged Muslim countries to take a more active stance against Israel and apply pressure through economic, diplomatic, and political means to enforce a cease-fire.
In addition to providing humanitarian aid, Türkiye has mobilized international organizations like the United Nations, NATO, and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to restrain Israel and foster cooperation between Palestinian factions.
Israel’s severe offensive in the Gaza Strip, now reaching its one-year mark, has resulted in the death of thousands of Palestinians and displacement of the majority of Gaza’s population.
Efforts for a cease-fire and a prisoner swap have failed, with Netanyahu refusing to halt the offensive, resulting in a genocide case at the International Court of Justice.
Lebanon’s escalation follows a ruling by the International Court of Justice demanding the evacuation of Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
