The collaboration will focus on optimizing the performance, efficiency, and environmental impact of cultivated meat production, beginning with chicken and expanding to other products. The companies will work on improving bioreactor technology, perfusion systems, and media rejuvenation, while also reducing environmental impact through initiatives like optimized water usage, power consumption, and waste stream utilization.

Believer and GEA aim to lower production costs, facilitate technology transfer, and efficiently scale operations to make cultivated meat more cost-effective and accessible.

Together, Believer Meats and GEA seek to advance the cultivated meat ecosystem and move closer to full-scale production. The partnership also aims to establish joint commercial ventures to expand market reach and accelerate the growth of the cultivated meat industry globally.

Believer is building the world’s largest cultivated meat production facility in Wilson, N.C., featuring an innovation center and tasting kitchen. Scheduled to be operational by 2025, the facility will have the capacity to produce 12,000 metric tons (26 million pounds) of cultivated chicken annually without the need to slaughter any animals.

GEA will provide proprietary bioreactors for Believer’s cell-cultivation technology, designed to achieve high cell densities and yields. The collaboration will focus on process improvements, equipment optimization, and scale innovations to support large-scale cultivated meat production.
