Fast food giant McDonald’s has filed a lawsuit against four major meat producers – Tyson, JBS, Cargill, and National Beef Packing, accusing them of colluding to inflate beef prices. The lawsuit alleges that the producers violated antitrust laws by coordinating lower prices for cattle and slowing plant production to raise prices for buyers like McDonald’s. The world’s largest buyer of beef and pork is seeking monetary restitution. This lawsuit is part of ongoing investigations into the “Big Four” meatpackers’ control over 80% of U.S. beef production and their possible violations of antitrust laws. McDonald’s claims that the companies held meetings to exchange sensitive information, ensuring a grip on pricing to increase profits. McDonald’s did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the matter.
